QUALITY TRANSMISSION SERVICE SINCE 1965!

What's wrong with my Ford Explorer transmission?

Fluid leaks: Noting red or brown leaking out of your Ford Explorer could mean a serious error in the transmission.

Strange noises: Listen for odd clunking, clicking, and buzzing noises. All could mean an error in the transmission department.

Burning smell: A burning scent could mean the fluid is running low in the transmission.

Sluggish response: A good transmission will kick off fast, while a poor one will falter or could fail to respond.

Ford Recall Reference Number: 23S05

In some 2022—2023 models with the 2.3L engine, some Powertrain Control Modules have reset while in Drive and disabled the Park function. If your vehicle is affected, apply the electronic parking brake when parking your vehicle or in any other situation in which you would normally utilize the Park function. This will secure your vehicle, preventing it from rolling.

Solenoids are metal wire cylindrical coils that carry electric currents. The job of the shift interlock solenoid is to make sure you cannot shift from Park to Drive unless you first apply the brakes.

When the driver presses the brake pedal, the solenoid unit gets a signal to release a mechanical lock on the car’s shifter, allowing it to move. It is the shift interlock solenoid which lets the shifter to move from Reverse to Park and from Neutral to Reverse.

If the solenoid does not receive the brake pedal signal, it is impossible for the shifter to release from its current position. If the shift interlock is not working properly, you cannot shift out of Park, nor can you shift past Neutral while in Drive.

If you live in Sacramento and are having these problems with your Ford Explorer, bring it into our shop and let us determine exactly what's going on. We can get your transmission fixed and put you back on the road!
